Toolkit
Developer Toolkit
The everyday tools every later module assumes: the terminal, git and GitHub, HTTP and JSON, Docker, and SQL databases. Each lesson starts from a real problem at Crumb, from a lost conversation to a failed Saturday deploy, and leaves you able to use the tool, read its errors and avoid its classic traps.
By the end of this module you can
- move around and automate tasks in the terminal, and set environment variables
- track code with git, branch safely, and share and review work on GitHub
- read any HTTP request and response, including status codes, headers and JSON, and know which errors to retry
- run services like Redis in Docker, build an image for your own app, and wire containers together with Compose
- store and query data with SQL from Python, safely, and explain why AI apps need a relational database
Lessons
5 in this module- 01The terminal without fearNavigate folders, handle files, chain commands with pipes and set environment variables in the terminal, on macOS, Linux or Windows.
- 02Git and GitHub: save points for codeCommit, compare and undo changes with git, experiment on branches, and share and review code on GitHub without ever leaking a secret.
- 03How the web talks: HTTP, REST and JSONRead and send HTTP requests with curl and Python, interpret status codes, headers and JSON, and retry only the errors that waiting can fix.
- 04Docker: shipping your laptop in a boxRun services like Redis and Ollama in containers, keep their data in volumes, build an image for your own app, and run several containers together with Compose.
- 05Databases and SQL in one lessonDesign simple tables, query them with SELECT, WHERE, GROUP BY and JOIN from Python using SQLite, write data safely with placeholders and transactions, and know when to reach for Postgres.
